Heathside Partnership

Heathside Partnership

The new partnership between Heathside and Eaton Square is incredibly exciting. With a very similar ethos and values based offering, I have every confidence Heathside students will flourish when joining us.

Through our partnership, students can take part in joint enrichment activities and off timetable sessions to meet, spend time together and benefit from the best that both schools have to offer. Our Key Stage 3 (Year 7 and 8) curriculum is aligned so that students joining Eaton Square in Year 9 have had the same academic education as those already at our school. This ensures the best preparation for each student ahead of starting GCSE courses in Year 10.

We would warmly welcome you for a visit to get a feel for school life and to meet our students and teaching staff. Whether at a partnership event, our School Open Morning or through an individual tour, I look forward to meeting you.

Caroline Townshend

Head, Eaton Square Senior School

Our shared ethos

While each school has specific values that are unique to them, in many respects the two schools share a very similar ethos. The main areas of focus and importance for Heathside, are also common to Eaton Square. Eaton Square makes a natural next step for Heathside pupils who are ready to join a slightly larger senior school community.

Teachers’ in depth knowledge of the students – through small class sizes, form tutors and form time, staff truly know every student and can support them through the next stage of learning with compassion and excellence.

Senior school opportunities in a small school environment – Eaton Square has a thriving co-curricular programme with a strong house system, a focus on pupil leadership and preparation for life and the opportunities for every student’s voice to be heard and valued.

Green Spaces – Eaton Square is directly opposite Green Park, and the students go every day for break and lunch. The school utilises all the incredible central London sport and cultural opportunities on its doorstep to provide a diverse education for its students.

What A Levels are available?

Students can choose either 3 A levels or 1 T level. The latter is the equivalent to 3 A levels.

At interview stage, we hold an in-depth discussion with every student to ensure that their A or T level choices will put them on the right track for their future university and chosen career. In addition to the three A levels or 1 T level, students follow our bespoke ‘Programme for Life’ course and can take the EPQ.

A Levels

With the support of our staff, and we make every effort to timetable a student’s chosen A Level subject combination. In contrast, most Colleges and schools require students to choose subjects from fixed option blocks.

Below are some of the subjects we offer. We have the flexibility to offer others on demand. Reflecting our diverse, cosmopolitan community, a number of our students also take A levels in languages in which they are fluent.

T Levels

Studying A Levels is a traditional route into university level study. However, we recognise that students may prefer to take a more vocational pathway which allows for more coursework and time spent in industry. For these students, we will initially be offering T levels in the following areas:

Digital Production, Design and Development
Engineering
Accounting and Finance

What about Sport and other Extra-curricular opportunities?

Sport

Underpinned by an ethos of ‘sport for all’, sport at Eaton Square Senior School aims to encourage participation in all of our pupils, offering opportunities for competition, and supporting excellence in those who strive for it.

Pupils have two Games afternoons per week, as well as one 50-minute Physical Education lesson. These take place in Green Park, Hyde Park, local swimming centres and at our comprehensive playing fields in Acton Town.

The school competes in Football (both boys and girls), Netball, Rugby, Hockey, Athletics and Swimming. The Sports Department has also run a number of well attended clubs throughout the academic year including football, fencing, cross-country, cross-fit, table tennis, rugby, multi-sports, golf, and swimming.

Clubs and Extra-Curricular

For young people to truly get the most from their education, it is essential that they are not just regarded as students but as people; not just as students but as valued members of society.

At Eaton Square, co-curricular activities play an integral role in turning this theory into practice. From the cultural to the physical and the charitable, the school offers a broad range of opportunities that challenge both body and mind, and bring the school’s guiding POISE values to life.

There are four dedicated co-curricular sessions within the timetabled week, with over 50 different activities and societies throughout the school week, including Mindfulness club, the Politics and Current Affairs Society, Maths Challenge, the Community Outreach programme, Drama, and Lawn Games in Green Park.

Students are all encouraged to develop existing talents and also to try new things. If there is interest in an activity not currently available, the school will do everything in its power to make it available and, in fact, many of the clubs and societies have been initiated by the pupils themselves.
