Following World Book Day yesterday, award-winning author Chris Priestly visited our senior school.
Chris is known for his hugely popular gothic stories including Mister Creecher and Uncle Montague’s Tales of Terror. Chris delivered engaging talks and workshops to our Key Stage Three students and shared the inspiring story of his life as a reluctant reader turned famous writer.
During his workshop sessions, students were guided through his 10-step approach to planning his atmospheric stories, helping them to craft an effective beginning, middle and end in their own narratives. Students worked as a group to formulate a spooky tale set in our own school and used details from around the room to inspire their imaginations. The stories devised included sinister details such as moving pictures, hidden puzzles and a ghostly former student!
Many left armed with a host of new ideas to apply independently at home – we look forward to reading their completed stories over the coming weeks.
