The GCSE pupils of Eaton Square Senior School have again thrived in the face of adversity, as proven by their excellent 2021 GCSE results.

Considering the obstacles caused by COVID-19, this year’s Eaton Square pupils achieved a fantastic modal GCSE grade of 8 (equivalent to a high A/lower A* in the previous grading system).

99% of all GCSE grades were between 9 – 4 (equivalent to the previous A* – C). As well as being an increase on the strong 97.5% secured by the School’s GCSE cohort last year, this is also over 22% higher than the 2021 national average. In addition, 55% of pupils were awarded the top grades of 9 – 7 (equivalent to the previous A/A*), likewise an improvement on last year’s 47% and an impressive 26% higher than the national average.

100% of pupils achieved grade 9 – 4 in the core subjects: Maths, English (Literature and Language) and Science (double and separate sciences). This year’s GCSE cohort at Eaton Square Senior School were particularly strong in the Sciences, attaining an average grade of 7 (equivalent to A) across Biology, Chemistry and Physics. All subjects reflect positive valued added scores across the board.

Given the School’s academically non-selective entry process, these results aptly demonstrate how pupils truly achieve their potential at Eaton Square Senior School.

In place of end of year exams, pupils were assessed through coursework submitted throughout the year, two rounds of formal mock exams and ongoing assessment right up until 18th June to formulate Teacher Assessed Grades.

Caroline Townshend, Head of Eaton Square Senior School, was delighted with the results. She commented:

“My sincere congratulations to all pupils on this very strong set of GCSE results: a testament to how hard pupils have worked throughout the pandemic, rising to the challenge of new assessment modes with commitment and vigour. Eaton Square Senior School’s focus on outstanding teaching and learning – whether in school or remote – has remained a priority throughout the past 18 months. The excellence of our staff has been clear for all to see and I thank everyone in the Eaton Square community for the part they have played in the success of our pupils today.”
