STEAM week

2nd November 2018

This week has been STEAM week (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.) Throughout the week we have participated in assemblies, workshops and school trips!

A mad scientist came in to give demonstrations to the boys and girls, including making “elephant toothpaste” using different chemicals to make an exothermic reaction (a reaction that gives off heat) as well as making a mini rocket with alka-seltzer and water. It was a very fun and factual assembly, we are so lucky to have so many pupils that love science!

During the workshops the children went to our outdoor classroom where they took part in several workshops, including shooting a water rocket, painting on the whole school mural and working out how to create a structure strong enough to save an egg from smashing when it is dropped from a height, only a few groups managed to be successful in this activity!

Years 2, 4 and 5 enjoyed visiting the Science Museum where they started their term in the Science Museum’s Wonderlab! The children investigated and explored forces, electricity, space and many other fascinating things!
