IAPS National Swimming Championships – Gold medals galore!

19th May 2015

The IAPS swimming national championships is one of the largest sporting events on the  prep school calendar.  Over 600 schools from all over the UK are eligible to compete, and the majority with strong swimmers take this opportunity to participate on the national stage.

ESS has long been known for swimmers, but at Crawley’s K2 Swimming centre on the 9th May the current U10 group of; Juan M, Harry S, Pietro F and Henry G produced one of the most dominant year group team performances ever seen at an IAPS competition.

After six events, their bounty included four golds and a silver, and the overall u10 trophy.  They were so dominant, their group points tallied higher than the next closest four schools combined!

If that weren’t impressive enough, the boys broke two records in the relays, including the first time in history that an u10 prep school team in the UK has broken the one minute barrier for the 4x25m freestyle relay (new record: 59.78seconds).

Thanks to the squad for their hard work, to the PE department staff, and to Miss Lorraine for her coaching brilliance, and dedication to swimming at ESS,  for producing these simply incredible results!
