Our Three Nursery Classrooms
Each classroom is designed around the children’s ages, with spaces that invite them to explore, imagine, and play.
The Greenhouse, for ages 2 to 3
The Greenhouse is where our youngest children begin. It offers part-time morning places in a calm, nurturing room designed to help two-year-olds settle, build confidence, and make their first friends.
The Beehive, for ages 3 to 4
The Beehive offers full-time places for three-year-olds. At its heart is a beehive play structure that encourages exploration and imaginative play.
The Treehouse, for ages 3 to 4
The Treehouse also offers full-time places for three-year-olds. Its working treehouse sparks curiosity and a love of nature that lasts all day.
Learning Through Play
At this age, children learn best when they are fully engaged, and engagement comes through play. Our qualified Early Years team plans each day to balance child-led and teacher-led activities, indoors and outdoors.
We follow the EYFS, which covers 7 areas of learning. The prime areas, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, and Communication and Language, are the main focus for children under 3. Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design build on these as children grow.
We plan around each child’s interests and share their progress with you through Tapestry, where you can also add your own observations from home. You will receive detailed reports at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms and meet your child’s teacher at parents’ evenings in the Autumn and Spring terms.

Specialist Teaching and Days Out
Each week, children enjoy Music, Swimming, Mindfulness and Games with specialist teachers. A professional swim coach leads swimming lessons, building children’s confidence in the water from an early age.
Children walk to the park every day and take regular trips to places such as Forest School, the London Wetlands Centre, and the Royal Parks. Highlights of the year include the Christmas Performance, the Easter Bonnet Parade, Sports Day at the Millennium Arena in Battersea Park and the Graduation Ceremony, and parents are always welcome.

Care and Support for Every Child
We plan for each child’s individual needs. Our Learning Enrichment team and a specialist staff member support any child who needs extra help with learning, communication, or behaviour.
For children who speak English as an additional language, our specialist teacher runs small-group Chat and Play sessions. We also encourage children to use their home languages, so English and their first language support each other.
Healthy eating matters too. Eaton Square Prep School holds the Healthy Early Years London Gold Award, and we share our menus with parents through My School Portal.
From Nursery to Reception
Children in our nursery have priority entry into Reception at Eaton Square. Their Reception assessment is informal and play-based, and takes place in their own nursery classroom, so children are unaware it is happening.
This means your child can move from nursery to Reception without changing schools, friends or routines. From there, they continue through our prep school to Year 6.

What are the nursery hours?
Full-time children in The Beehive and The Treehouse are dropped off at 8.30 am and collected at 3.30 pm. Children in The Greenhouse attend in the mornings, from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm. All sessions run five days a week during term time.
Do you accept 15-hour free childcare funding?
Yes. We offer the 15-hour free childcare funding for all 3- to 4-year-olds. We apply on your behalf before each term and deduct the funded amount from your termly fee. We do not accept the 2-year-old funding or the 30-hour funding, and we do not offer fully funded places.

No. We don’t offer assessments for Pre-Nursery or Nursery. We offer places on a first-come, first-served basis, and you can register your child from birth. Because our nursery classes are popular, we encourage families to register as early as possible.
Will my child get a place in Reception?
Children in our nursery have priority entry into Reception at Eaton Square Prep School. Their assessment is informal and play-based, and it happens in their own classroom, so children don’t realise they are being assessed. This gives your child a settled move into Reception with familiar friends and teachers.
