Co-Curricular

For young people to truly get the most from their education, it is essential that they are not just regarded as students but as people; not just as students but as valued members of society.

At Eaton Square, co-curricular activities play an integral role in turning this theory into practice. From the cultural to the physical and the charitable, we offer a broad range of opportunities that challenge both body and mind, and bring our school’s guiding POISE values to life.

There are four dedicated co-curricular sessions within the timetabled week, with over 35 different activities and societies throughout the school week, including Mindfulness club, the Politics and Current Affairs Society, Maths Challenge, the Community Outreach programme, Drama, and Lawn Games in Green Park.

Students are all encouraged to develop existing talents and also to try new things. If there is interest in an activity not currently available, we will do everything in our power to make it available and, in fact, many of the clubs and societies have been initiated by the students themselves. This fits with our guiding principle that every sudent should find themselves and be who they want to be.

Sport and Physical Education

Students have one PE lesson and two double games lessons per week, where they will experience a range of new and exciting sporting experiences. As well as enhancing their interpersonal skills in co-operative and competitive situations, sport provides students with an appreciation of personal qualities relating to sportsmanship and fair play.

The psychological benefits of sport are of vital importance and through consistent participation, students who are given the opportunity to succeed, irrespective of ability, develop self-esteem and self-confidence.

A major strength of Eaton Square Senior School sport is our committed, passionate, and expert teaching and coaching staff. They are the motivating force behind our competitive teams in Athletics, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Hockey, Netball and Swimming, and we are delighted to be able to say that more than three-quarters of students have represented Eaton Square in a given sport.

Music

All students at Eaton Square are provided with a route into music, opening the door to the new accomplishments and enjoyable experiences that come with it.

We champion and challenge their capabilities, with lessons currently available in singing, piano, guitar (acoustic, electric and bass), brass (trumpet, French horn), saxophone, clarinet and drums.

Whether they become interested in choir, Songwriting Club or the Eaton Square Ensemble, there are a wide range opportunities and technologies available to support them in analysing, composing and performing music.

Charity

Eaton Square places great value on the concept of service, which means children develop an understanding of their need to contribute to society and support communities at both a local and global level.

Across the school, we are currently working with two charities: Prek Sway School in Cambodia and Chiltern Music Therapy. Students and teachers will be undertaking a number of fundraising activities to provide the highly valued financial support these organisations need to make a difference to people’s lives.

We are very proud of what the school has been able to achieve in previous years, which included raising an amazing £200,000 for The Evelina Children’s hospital, and we are committed to continuing our support for charities into the future.

School Houses

Upon joining Eaton Square, each student is allocated to one of our four Houses, which are named after distinguished figures associated with our building: Hypatia, Waugh, Hunlock and Browne.

Each House is made up of students from Years 7 to 11, banding students together in a supportive network that provides the basis for camaraderie and healthy competition.

The various House assemblies, inter-House competitions and celebrations allow students to make genuine contributions as individuals while building relationships among the cross-section of pupils within their House. It also encourages individuals to develop a range of skills, from leadership and obligation to coaching and mentoring.

Each House is led by a Head of House (staff member), House Captains (current Year 10 students) and House Representatives (a student from each year group). All teaching staff are allocated a House and family members will follow each other into the same House in recognition of continuity and tradition.
