Years 7, 8 and 9

Years 7, 8 and 9

Pupils study a true breadth of curriculum. Along side the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, pupils choose a language from Spanish and French.

In years 7 and 8 Humanities is examined across three areas of inquiry: Geography, History and a Third Session centered around Analysis and Application, requiring the implementation of the skills of both Geography and History to examine Global Events, origins and endings, causes and effects – from the introduction of the potato, expansion of European Empires and the modern Black Lives Matter movement.

Art, Music and Drama each have their own lessons and regularly collaborate together for events. Pupils have separate lessons in computing and IT skills, ensuring that they develop in both areas, from day to day computing, supporting their studies and home lives, to coding. Finally, pupils take a trio of subjects focusing on the development of the individual; our in-house programs of Leadership, Synergy and Wellbeing.

The Leadership programme ensures that pupils develop life skills that will aid not only their academic studies, but life beyond school such as rhetoric and speech development, critical thinking and emotional intelligence in a course including the analysis of great leaders, a Dragon’s Den pitch and the development of their own school events. Synergy is a focus on teamwork and problem solving through project-based learning including code-breaking, the creation of their own children’s book and modelling a small government on Mars. Wellbeing ensures that pupils develop the knowledge and skills that they can feel safe and confident in handling what life may throw at them, through a course that covers the RSE curriculum as one part of a much bigger picture where pupils learn to know how they are doing and feel about their lives.

In Year 9, there is the opportunity to take a second language in preparation for the GCSE course. All pupils have one lesson a week of PE on site and two afternoon sessions of Games at our Acton sports ground.
