Nursery Curriculum

Learning through Play

Our main aim in the Nursery Schools at Eaton Square, is to foster happy and independent children who thrive in an environment which is fun, caring and full of new and exciting challenges and experiences. The children are given opportunities for both indoor and outdoor learning on a daily basis, with activities being planned to stimulate their senses and learning styles.

Preparation for the children’s education is thorough and each timetable offers a balance of structured play and a focused emphasis on all aspects of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Every day is carefully planned by our qualified Early Years team, to ensure that the children are offered both child initiated and teacher led activities in order to enable all of the children to achieve their full potential.

Ballet, Music, Swimming, Yoga, Drama and Karate are taught by specialist teachers and there is help available from the Learning Enrichment department for any child who requires additional support.

Our Nursery Schools are decorated with bright displays of the children’s artwork, a testament to the creativity of the children. Each school offers a happy, homely and vibrant atmosphere with an emphasis on forging strong home/school links, to ensure the children make a confident and happy start to their education. Parents are welcomed into school and we very much operate an Open Door policy.

There are regular opportunities to discuss your child’s progress with their Key Teacher and our twice yearly Parents Evenings take place in both the autumn and spring terms. We understand how important it is for parents to receive regular feedback on how well their child is doing at school and so in addition to these evenings, reports are also written twice a year.

The Areas of Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage

The EYFS curriculum focuses on 7 areas of learning:-

The PRIME areas will focus on:-

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

These areas of learning are a real focus for those children who are under 3 years old.

The SPECIFIC areas of learning will look at :-

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

All of our children attending both the morning sessions, or a full day at school, will be working with these 7 areas of the curriculum.

Extra-Curricular Experiences

We are proud of the breadth of activities we are able to offer Eaton Square pupils beyond their curriculum-led experiences.

It is in these moments that children can begin to develop their love of sporting and creative pursuits, igniting sparks that will fire lifelong passions.

Examples include learning to swim with a professional swimming coach, practising yoga with a specialist teacher, and dancing with a teacher from a prominent London Ballet School. We also encourage children to develop their performance skills, including them all in our Christmas performance and graduation ceremony.
