Performing Poetry for a Duchess

On Wednesday 16th October, Eaton Square Mayfair hosted the launch of the Poetry Together initiative. An incredible project brought to life by Gyles Brandreth and Dukes Education.

Poetry Together is all about bringing young and old together to share in the joy of performing poetry, which is exactly what happened on Wednesday.

Three children from Eaton Square Prep, along side three residents from Norton House Care Home, were one of five groups of children and older people from all around the country, with one group coming all the way from Wales!

Eaton Square and Norton House performed the poem ‘Greta Thunberg’ by Liz Brownlee.

Poetry Together has the support of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, and we were incredibly fortunate to be able to welcome her to the school for this special event. She thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the performances, and even took part herself in a rendition of the poem Matilda, with some children from Knightsbridge School.

After everyone had the chance to perform, and receive their certificate from Her Royal Highness, it was time for tea. and what a tea it was! our fantastic ESM chef Felipe out did himself with the incredible Victoria sponge cakes he made for everyone to enjoy. The Duchess of Cornwall wove neatly around all the tables, so everyone had a chance to meet her and chat about their schools, care homes and towns. All too quickly it was time for her to go and the afternoon came to an end. But what an afternoon we all had, certainly one that none of us will forget for a long time.

Thank you to everyone who made this such a special day!
